Saturday, April 24 The Hindenburg Blimp crash site and Lakehurt Navy Base
Lakehurst was the only operating naval airship station prior to our entry into World War II. Although NAS Lakehurst will forever be remembered as the site of the Hindenburg disaster, many other significant events have taken place here. The rigid airships Shenandoah , Los Angeles and Akron all called the station home, as did many U.S. Navy blimps. The station was the western terminus for the commercial transatlantic flights of the German dirigibles Hindenburg and Graf Zeppelin. Tour will include The Ready Room, The POW-MIA Room,
Historic Hangar One, and the Hindenburg Crash Site Memorial Marker. All participants will be required to give information in advance to pass naval base security. We will make a stop for lunch on the way home. RTE 7 & RTE 4 behind NTB Battery 7:00 AM; Fairfax S/c by ACME Rte 202 - 7:30 AM
